Launching Australia's largest petition

Renew Our World has launched in Australia with events in major cities and the largest petition in Australia’s history.

The Renew Our World campaign is presented in Australia by Micah Australia and TEAR Australia, featuring a community climate petition to cover every electorate in the country.

Renew Our World has launched in Australia with multiple events in major cities, including most recently at Surrender, the largest gathering of its kind with more than one thousand young Christians focusing on social justice and radical discipleship.

In Australia, Renew Our World is presented by TEAR Australia and Micah Australia, who are partnering with churches and communities to organise Australia’s largest petition.

Climate Action Petition

This year, the Australian Government will undertake a major review of its current climate change policies. The petition calls on our Government to take stronger action to address the climate change challenge.

The petition will cover every electorate, making it the largest coordinated multi-electorate petition in Australia’s history.

Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.
(Isaiah 58:12)

The world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities – particularly in the Asia-Pacific region – are suffering the harmful impacts of climate change.

Yet Australia – one of the wealthiest nations – is not doing anywhere near enough to reduce our emissions. We are delaying the urgent action needed to shift our energy and transport systems to 100% renewable sources.

We are not providing enough support to help our vulnerable neighbours prepare for and adapt to increasingly severe climate change impacts.

It’s clear what Australia needs to do. Our Federal and State Governments should help Australians manage the risks of a changing climate, seize the opportunities of the global energy revolution, and support our neighbours as they adapt to the harmful effects of climate change.

Raising a powerful voice

To call on Australia to act more urgently for climate justice, we are launching the largest coordinated multi-electorate petition in Australia’s history.

In 2017 we will work with churches, schools, campus & community groups to raise 150 community climate petitions (one in every electorate across the country) and present them to politicians and in Parliament.

It will be presented at a time when the Government is reviewing its own climate change policies and also considering adopting stronger targets to take to the United Nations international climate conference in 2018.

The petition calls on the Australian Government to take stronger action to reduce our emissions, transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy, and support our poorest and most vulnerable neighbours as they face the increasing impacts of climate change.
